This is a great opportunity to undertake a level 3 NVQ diploma in construction contracting operations. Working for Oldham Council you be carrying out all the building control functions.
A normal day would include:
Undertaking a range of tasks associated with the work of the building control group including surveys, inspections, plan checking, plan printing and land searches under the supervision of a senior building control officers
Providing support in assessing building regulation charges
Responding to enquiries from applicants or their agents, contractors or members of the public
Providing technical advice to customers on pre-application submissions
Attending internal and external meetings
Contributing to achieving the building control service’s objectives and targets as set out in the plan
Undertaking the L3 NVQ Diploma in Construction Contracting Operations Apprenticeship includes a day release to attend technical training and a formal qualification. This will be supported by practical training necessary through shadowing officers in the building control service and officers in other groups.
The apprentice may be in contact with members of the public, professional agents, developers and other council services including highways, planning and housing, the police and fire service as well as national accreditation bodies.

What you should have to apply
GCSE grades A-C in English and maths or level 2 functional skills
Ability to utilise time effectively and prioritise workloads
Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing in a clear, polite and informative manner
Be physically capable of climbing scaffolds and ladders
Construction industry experience gained by temporary, seasonal, or voluntary work
Ability to interpret plans and technical information
Ability to write clear concise reports
Ability to use Microsoft office applications including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint
Some knowledge and understanding of building control legislation
