When A/C structure is damaged, it requires a quick restoration … Typically, passengers are waiting to take-off … and Airlines are losing money…

In support of the Airlines, Airbus supplies a Structural Repair Manual (SRM) for the most critical damage prone areas at the Entry into Service of a new Aircraft or Mod.

The SRM is a fleet wide manual which provides the customer with damage limits they can apply to their aircraft without the need to report to Airbus or the Authorities.

Think of the SRM as a type of digital instruction manual for repairing an Aircraft.

The Wing SRM team are the end to end owners of this manual.

We are involved in the early design process of a new aircraft development, to ensure that when design changes are made that future reparability is taken into account.

We take the specific design and certification data, analysis and changes to reparability and then design a repair solution taking into account Airline needs and requirements.

We are a relatively new organisation and are continuously developing and improving our ways of working in a dynamic and exciting way.

We are a transnational team based in Filton UK and Bremen Germany with a multi-disciplined work force (consisting Stress, Fatigue, Design, Technical Authoring and Project Management).

Tasks & accountabilities
In this Role you will learn the end to end process of creating an SRM, beginning with stress and fatigue analysis supporting the development and definition of allowable damage for the wing box structure. You will also be involved in the design and publishing aspect of the SRM creation which will include interpretation of the stress analysis to create allowable damage limits and repairs that will be the end product used by the Airline Operators. You will learn about the implications of Airworthiness regulations, Materials and Processes, Aero-dynamic affects and much more.

The role will involve liaising with a variety of Airbus Engineering departments as part of the daily activities; you will be working alongside Senior and Principal Engineers. You will also be working with external Airbus partners and contractors on a regular basis.

The role will also involve the opportunity to work with Airbus teams in Toulouse and Bremen so some travel for business maybe required.

The applicant should be keen to learn, a dynamic person with a solid mechanical and/or science background.

Required skills
You must be a an undergraduate for the full duration of the internship studying towards a Degree in one of the following; Aerospace, Maths, Physics, Mechanical, Structural, Manufacturing, Aeronautical, Quality, Engineering design, Automotive

Knowledge of aircraft structures (i.e. Wings).
Understanding of the fundamental methods of analysis for static stressing.
Ability to perform in a high pressure reactive environment.
Ability to liaise/negotiate with engineering teams and discuss technical matters clearly and simply.
Good interpersonal and communication skills.
The ability to translate customer requirements into operational deliverables and prioritise.
Ability to work independently and also part of a team when required.
Ability to quickly pick up new processes and procedures.
