While working for Orkney Boats Ltd and alongside Paragon Skills, you will be assisted and guided in actively working towards gaining your L3 qualification in Boatbuilding.
Your day to day duties will include, but are not limited to;
- Maintenance and repair
- Cleaning and polishing
- Aiding qualified Boatbuilders
The working week is Monday to Friday and will consist of 40 hours per week. The working hours are 7.30am until 5pm Monday to Thursday and 7.30am until 11.30am on a Friday. Overtime may become available also if desired.
The wage may be increased throughout your apprenticeship if you demonstrate good progress within the programme. You will also be assisted with travel expenses.
There are no prior qualifications required for this role but some knowledge and interest within the industry would be beneficial.

Our Industry leading Personal Tutor will deliver outstanding teaching and learning to help ENERGISE you to complete your apprenticeship training and leave you confident to EXECUTE tasks to the highest standard. Our experienced Marine centre in Fareham are currently the only approved centre for delivering this exciting apprenticeship. During this apprenticeship standard you will complete:
- Foundation Phase (months 1-18) Level 2 Foundation Diploma in Boat Building
- Level 2 Functional Skills in Maths & English
- Development Phase (months 18-36)
- Level 3 Diploma in Boatbuilding
At the end of your studies you will complete an end point assessment, this will include demonstrating repair techniques to a wooden vessel, producing an FRP component and a VIVA competency based interview regarding the work completed during your 4 year apprenticeship.
