Apprentice Commis Chef
Role Description:
Barnsdale Lodge are looking for an Apprentice Commis Chef to join their experienced team. You will be assisting the chefs and learning how to cook and prepare food for all aspects of the menu.

Duties Include:Learning different procedures of food preparation
Preparing ingredients for dishes upon the instructions of the chef
Making sure that food supplies are stored properly and used resourcefully
Ensuring that food items are properly rotated in refrigerators and any near expiry ones are dealt with accordingly
Setting up food stations by following chef’s orders, make sure that recipes are followed properly during food preparation and cooking time
Handling portion control requirements and presentation standards
Arranging food items aesthetically on serving plates
Making sure that the kitchen is clean and organised at all times, Ensure that best food practices and kitchen hygiene protocols are adhered to
Making sure that all leftover food is stored properly
Assisting in checking food deliveries for both quantity and quality standards
Providing input into stock rotation activities and make sure that food inventory is in check
Maintaining a ‘clean as you go’ work ethic

Each Apprentice will be supported throughout the apprenticeship by a structured programme of teaching, e-learning, face to face training and workplace mentoring; this will encourage and help them to meet the requirements of the new standards and will prepare them for the end of point assessment.

Once the apprentice has completed a minimum of 12 months training, this will include the completion of functional skills in Maths and English. They will be put through to end point assessment. The end point assessment is independent from the training and includes a variety of assessment methods which test the skills and knowledge of the apprentice to ensure they are fully competent in their role.

Must have previous experience of working within a kitchen. Able to work under pressure, Able to use initiative, Good communication skills.

Qualifications required:
You are required to have a GCSE in Maths. Full training is to be provided.
Reality check:
The candidate ideally would need to have their own transport due to the location and also due to the hours/role. The role can sometimes be working across split shifts. This role will involve working weekends.
