Advanced Level Apprenticeship
As an Apprentice IT Hardware technician at 1st Technologies your role will involve working within the Inbound and Outbound goods process. At the goods inbound process you will be tasked with efficiently testing, updating, grading and disassembling computer systems decommissioned from business clients. Your role in the goods outbound process will be assembling and testing custom configuration major brand servers, workstations and desktop computers from refurbished components.
Working within an ever-growing friendly team in a purposely designed indoor heated computer assembly and workshop facility. A considerable amount of time will be spent standing and lifting/carrying up to 30kg whilst handling the server systems.
Your duties and responsibilities in this role will consist of:
Performing assembly and testing of custom configuration major brand PC’s, servers and workstations from refurbished parts
Perform fault finding and diagnosis when presented with errors during assembly or disassembly process
Structured organisation of work space to keep required tools on hand and your working environment tidy
Testing decommissioned ex-corporate equipment and disassembling components from systems
Working closely with team members to achieve co-ordinated production targets, helping to resolve recurring production issues and contributing new information to the internal knowledge base
Requirements and prospects
Computer systems assembly knowledge
Fault finding and reasoning skills to diagnose and interpret issues during assembly
Capable of working effectively to meet deadlines in a pressure environment
Ability to learn quickly and retain knowledge – the successful candidate will be working across a wide range of hardware which is constantly changing
Ideally comfortable at component level of Intel and AMD based PC’s, servers and workstations from leading manufacturers such as HP, Dell and IBM
Experience diagnosing and repairing hardware faults on X86 based computers and servers
Team leadership and junior management experience for future progression opportunities
An understanding and experience of Lean principles and ways of working
Excellent communication skills
Excellent written and spoken English
Positive and enthusiastic candidate willing to learn and excel in IT Infrastructure
Sound decision maker
Motivated and driven
5 GCSE’s grades A*-C/9-4 or equivalent (including English Language and Maths)

The Estio Training programme gives young people the opportunity to get practical experience in the IT industry whilst still employed in a real paid job with no cost or debt. Learners will receive ten weeks of intensive training. Whilst in the workplace, apprentices will also receive continual assessment, and help and guidance from a dedicated trainer who will be there to ensure that they get the most from their work experience. This apprenticeships will give you a Level 3 Infrastructure Technician Standard with training in areas such as:
Functional skills, Maths L2 and English L2
PC Fundamentals & Customer Service Skills
Business Processes & Network Fundamentals
Coding & Logic
Employment Rights and Responsibilities
Networking and Architecture
Some of these modules will include an option to take an examination in order to receive a professional certificate.
