As a Painting Apprentice you will be involved in producing high quality decorative finishes, including marbling, stencil manufacture and sign writing. You will carry out wet and dry abrasive blasting and prepare final surface finishes whilst operating a range of high-reach equipment.
What Does The Apprenticeship Involve?
Contributing to day to day marine activities, painting demands high quality decorative finishes, including marbling, stencil manufacture, sign writing and the application of gold leaf to ornate surfaces.
You will also need to be able to carry out wet and dry abrasive blasting, preparing final surface finishes, modern painting techniques and operate a range of high-reach equipment. and you’ll have the skills to assess paint coatings by measuring the job with knowledge of the pigment and adhesive content of the materials applied. In the shipbuilding role, you will be engaged in painting sub-assemblies and components, ladders, doors, internal compartments, deck coverings and internal and external areas of the ship structure.
As a painter, you will be trained to use hand tools, machines and flammable materials safely. You will learn to work in confined conditions and be trained in the importance of Health and Safety in the workplace.

Entry Requirements and what we are looking for
5 GCSE’s at grades A*-C/4-9 (or equivalent) including Maths, English and Science/Technical subject
5 National 4s to include English, Maths and a Science or Technical Subject
