As the Payroll Assistant Apprentice, you will be provided with the opportunity and motivation to combine practical training in a job with study, so you learn and work with experienced employees to develop your future career.
The 12-15 month apprenticeship programme will provide you with a nationally recognised qualification and practical skills, while also earning a salary. At the end of the programme we want to help you to combine your skills and qualifications to apply for permanent employment at giant group.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities of being an Apprentice:
1. Complete apprenticeship qualifications relevant to the area of work
2. You will receive support from the line manager and team
3. Take ownership for keeping your service knowledge and skills up-to-date
4. Know our organisation’s core values and how they link to the service culture
5. Be able to organise yourself, prioritise your own workload/activity and work to meet deadlines
6. Use appropriate resolution to meet our customers’ needs and manage expectations
7. Frequently and consistently communicate and work with others in the interest of helping customers efficiently
8. Consider personal goals and propose development that would help achieve them
9. Opportunities for in-house training, in addition to your apprenticeship qualification, to further improve your skills and employability
10. Develop valuable and professional work-based skills from day one
11. Exercises proactivity and good judgement. Makes effective decisions based on sound reasoning and can deal with challenges in a mature way. Seeks advice of more experienced team members when appropriate
12. Maintains records and files, handles confidential information in compliance with the organisation’s procedures

Principle Duties and Responsibilities of a Payroll Assistant:

1. Effectively manage emails and Payroll Inbox
2. Maintain payroll calendar, ensuring deadlines are met on time, every time
3. Collate data from approved data submitters, ensuring it is duly authorised
4. Prepare starters, leavers, changes, and absence from Workday, checking accuracy against trackers, before submitting to our payroll provider
5. Prepare variable data for submission to payroll provider via spreadsheets
6. Provide evidenced confirmation to Payroll Manager that all payroll checks have been completed to enable sign off
7. Prepare detailed approval/variance reports for review by Payroll Approvers and Payroll Manager
8. Maintain various trackers to support continuous improvement
9. Ensure all payroll queries are dealt with in accordance to KPI’s, escalating concerns to Payroll Manager
10. Undertake reconciliations and analysis of payroll
11. Safeguard payroll procedures, maintain compliance and ensure that internal controls are adhered to always
12. Assist with payroll audits as required
13. Actively participate in team meetings and training exercises
14. Remain updated in payroll legislation and self-development
