The Test Analyst Apprentice will work alongside experienced Functional Test, Performance Test and Test Environment and Data Analysts to assist in the successful delivery of testing across the University’s diverse suite of IT Systems and Applications.
Through testing, they will contribute towards providing the effective delivery of fit for purpose IT solutions which meet business needs through delivery across the entire lifecycle of testing (planning, preparation, specification, execution and completion).
The apprentice will undertake assignments across a project and/or service functions as required.
The following subject areas will be covered as part of the Test Analyst apprenticeship training programme and through work-based assignments:
Test Planning and Control
Test Environment Management
Test Data Management
Manual and Automated Testing
Functional/Non Functional Testing
Key Responsibilities, Accountabilities and Duties
Dependent upon assignment:
Supports the technical analysis of specifications to determine test requirements. Assists with defining the requirements for environment, data, resources and tools.
Assists in the production of test scripts (including automated test scripts and packages) to test new and amended software.
Reviews test results and modifies tests if necessary.
Contributes to progress updates, and documents test failures and successes compared with pre-defined criteria, creating traceability records, from test cases back to requirements, in accordance with agreed standards.
Assists with the co-ordination, planning and management of Test Environments and Data used by IT Services.
Helps to ensure test environment proving activities such as Smoke Testing are undertaken and that Test Environments are fit for purpose. Assist with raising issues with the provisioning teams and the resolution of any defects.
Works within a defined organisation governance framework.
Helps to record work with using the appropriate standards, processes and methods/tools.
Works with customers and stakeholders, seeking to develop and enhance relationships
Arranges and prepares client/customer meetings, as well, as helps to facilitate stakeholder consultation/engagement sessions
Contributes to briefings and presentations about their relevance and potential value to the organisation.

A passion for Functional/ Non-Functional Testing, preferably within an IT environment and a desire to work in a customer facing role.
