BDO Summer School Programme
This listing has expired
Our one week Summer School programme is a great work shadowing opportunity that provides you with an insight into what a role at BDO would entail.
Summer School offers an exceptional opportunity to look ahead at your career options as you shadow and observe our teams and get the chance to see first-hand the kind of work you could be doing as an apprentice.
TRY BEFORE YOU APPLY
Think a career at BDO might be what you are looking for? Then the Summer School is the perfect place to find out. It lets you experience life at the firm, discover what our work involves on a daily basis, meet our people and explore your options.
If you’re curious about our Apprenticeship Programme and wondering whether to apply for it next year, then this will help you make up your mind.
FIRST THINGS FIRST…
The first step is your application – this is where we choose the strongest candidates we believe will benefit most from this one-week programme. You’ll need to apply for the UK office you’d prefer to be based at, and the business stream you would like to shadow. Then, on your first day, you’ll come to our London office where you’ll meet your fellow colleagues, receive a general introduction to BDO, and take part in various group activities.
After this full-on introduction, you’ll spend the remaining four days at your chosen local office. Now the experience really steps up a gear, as you explore your selected business stream face-to-face. You will be shadowing your team as they work on projects, so you can learn what the job is really like.
Along the way, you’ll:
- gain exposure to a variety of industry sectors
- interact with a wide range of senior people including partners and managers
- shadow our teams as they work on projects and attend client meetings
At the end of the week, you’ll meet with a Partner. This is to gauge how much you’ve learned and benefitted from the Summer School. It’s also a chance to give your own feedback. By now, you should have a clearer idea as to what BDO is like, as well as what to expect if you continue a career with us.
You will be reimbursed for all reasonable travel incurred during the programme.
Our Summer School has helped many high-calibre students weigh up their options on what to do when they leave school. Even if you take the placement and then decide BDO isn’t for you, you’ll have gained some valuable insight and new skills to add to your CV – plus some potentially valuable contacts. Even more importantly, you’ll have gained a real understanding of how a professional services firm operates.
CHOOSING AN OFFICE LOCATION
We recommend choosing an office location that is easy to travel to. We can only consider applications from candidates who live no longer than 1.5 hours away from the office location they have applied to. The office location that you apply to is where you will spend the majority of the week working.
If you chose to continue your career with us after your Summer School Programme, and are offered a place to join our Apprenticeship programme, your offer will be for the office you were placed in. Therefore we’d recommend applying to a location where you’d like to continue your training with us.
To apply for the BDO Summer School, use our online application form. You need to be in Year 12 to be eligible, and you must also fulfill the following entry requirements:
Predicted to achieve three A Levels A*-C in any subject (excluding General Studies and Extended Projects)
A*-C for GCSE English Language and Maths
