Crossroads Caring for Carers is Worcestershire’s leading charity offering practical support for family based carers and people with care needs. As a charity we care for people and work with several hundred individuals and their families.
Principal duties and responsibilities:
To provide dignified care and support to people at their chosen times to enable them to remain living safely and independently in their own homes.
To spend time with a person who has care needs, allowing their family based carer some respite.
Depending on the person’s care needs this may include:
Personal care – physical assistance given to a person in connection with:
- Eating or drinking
- Washing or bathing
- Care of skin
- Oral Hygiene
Prompting or administering medication
Assistance with mobility and transfers using specialised equipment / hoists
Shopping on behalf of, or with person with care needs
Maintaining house hygiene and cleanliness
Talking and listening
Being vigilant and reporting signs of distress or anxiety in service users; any deterioration in physical and /or mental health, or concerns about safety in their home.
If requested, to help the person being cared for enjoy leisure recreational activities eg by trips out of the house
Maintain and respect confidentiality at all times
Not to act in a way that discriminates against anyone on grounds of:
- gender reassignment
- marriage and civil partnership
- pregnancy and maternity
- religion or belief
- sexual orientation
To respect the wishes of the person being cared
Not to undertake work that endangers the health and safety of yourself or others
To undertake training as required
To report to a Team Leader any changes in care and support needs, or any problems in providing the care specified
Maths and English GCSE's – C grades or preferred but not essential
Caring, kind nature
Able to remain calm
Respectful of confidentiality
