Description of the job
Airbus Defence and Space offers the opportunity to join the Craft Apprenticeship at the Stevenage site. This is a great
opportunity if you have a preference for a career in a predominantly hands-on environment.
This is a 3 year scheme with the first two years spent undertaking day release at Oaklands College where you will gain
academic qualifications and practical training. You will be studying towards the Advanced Apprenticeship in Engineering.
The time you spend onsite will be spent in the cleanrooms where you will gain hands on experience in the following areas:
¤ Panel and Structure Build learning composite techniques and Carbon Fibre Filament Winding
¤ Assembly of Solar Array Drive Mechanisms and Antenna Deployment and Trimming Mechanism involving both mechanical
and electrical processes
¤ Integration and Assembly of Chemical Propulsion Systems along with Hybrid Propulsion involving electrical harness assembly
and orbital welding of propulsion pipework
¤ Manufacture of Dual and Multiple Layer insulation and integration onto spacecraft
¤ Material treatments including grit blasting of metallic items before application of corrosion inhibiting primers and paints
Your final year is spent onsite in one specific placement within Assembly Integration and Test (AIT) where you will gain a
comprehensive knowledge of the area you’re deemed best suited and have excelled in.
To apply, you must have or be predicted at least 5 GCSE’s with a Grade C or 4 in Maths and English.
You will demonstrate a passion for Engineering either through hobbies or your educational choices. For example, if you have
been involved with an Engineering club at school, if you are a member of a society or you simply enjoy fixing things either from a
mechanical or electrical perspective.

The successful candidate will be subject to UK National Security Clearance in order to undertake related work in accordance
with business needs.
