Role requirements
This programme consists of rotational placements and therefore you must be willing to relocate as and when the programme requires.

Qualifications: You must have, or be predicted to gain, a 2:2 degree classification or above in a STEM discipline.

To apply for this role, you must hold a valid full UK car driving licence.

About the role
In this role, you will be part of a team using advanced technologies to capture and process condition data on National Grid’s electricity transmission system.

You will be part of a team responsible for delivering asset condition data to aid in determining optimised maintenance and refurbishment investments. You will develop expertise in Overhead Line and Substation assets, their failure modes and the technologies used to detect them. With a focus on data accuracy and cost of delivery, you will be responsible for developing new technology and techniques to drive efficiencies in our Condition Monitoring activities.

What you’ll do
Your responsibilities will include:

  • Liaising between our Asset Management and Engineering and Operational Delivery teams to ensure that asset data requirements can be met in the field.Development of Condition Assessment programmes to ensure that asset data is available to the business at the appropriate time in the investment cycle.
  • Ensuring existing condition monitoring systems are operational and delivering data as required. This will require working with electro-mechanical systems and software.
  • Safe operation of robotics and UAVs as required to deliver asset condition data.
  • Building relationships with key stakeholders, especially within the Operational Delivery teams, to leverage their asset knowledge and experience.
  • Development and delivery of new Condition Assessment and Monitoring technologies and techniques.
  • Providing training support for our Operational Delivery teams in Condition Monitoring activities.
  • Working with our IS team to ensure our requirements are met when projects are delivered.

What’s in it for you
You will gain knowledge and experience of the management of complex industrial installations, and exposure to the front-line engineering and management challenges of running a major infrastructure business.

Success will be founded on technical engineering knowledge gained through degree qualifications, but you will develop the ability to understand complex systems and their interactions, evaluate solutions and then implement them across several hundred sites nationally.

Technical appreciation is the foundation for this, but it will broaden experience, give exposure to many technologies and develop the wider skills needed to ‘get things done’ across an organisation.

You will influence the optimisation of the asset management and materially affect the resilience of a key part of our national infrastructure.

What you’ll get
You will receive a starting salary of £28,105 (or £29,127 if you hold a Masters) and a £2000 joining bonus. You will also have access to a number of additional benefits such as 25 days’ holiday, a generous completion payment, an accommodation allowance as you move around the business, a competitive pension scheme and a number of flexible benefits to name just a few.
