Main responsibilities

We are looking for innovative and motivated individuals to join our professional cyber security team and identify ways to defend the Janet Network. If you are determined to make a difference in cyber security and want to work in a fast-moving technological area, then take up this challenge and apply.

Through a combination of online, classroom and on-the-job learning you will obtain a degree level qualification whilst gaining real work experience. Working within a team of world-class professionals creates an enhanced learning experience to develop your networking and cyber security skills in a unique environment. This will include first class training and support for both day-to-day work and university learning; an advantage not available at university. This apprenticeship will give you a great opportunity to earn while you learn with a salary and company benefits.

As learning allows, you will:

Scan the network to identify security threats using cutting edge monitoring systems.

Support the team with the incident handling service when events have been detected.

Liaise with several departments to ensure detection and mitigation of threats to the Janet network and its customers.

Support other teams on detected security threats and advise on best course of action.

Gain awareness of the constant advancement of computer security threats to understand the need for enhancement of current tools.

Assist in the development and enhancement of the analytic systems, which detect new threats.

Desired qualification

  • A-Levels in ICT/Business/Computing
  • Or an Apprenticeship in a similar subject (this must be at least the level below the planned programme)
  • Or an International Baccalaureate at level 3 in ICT
  • Or a BTEC Extended Diploma in IT (180 credits)
  • For any City and Guilds programmes, the learner must be 18 on the first day of their apprenticeship

Working week

9am-5pm, Monday to Friday, (35 hours a week)


£19,000 per annum
