Description of the job

The Airbus Airframe Key Characteristics and Tolerancing (KC&T) Engineering department provides specialist tolerance (dimensional variation management) solutions to all new and existing Airbus programmes, working primarily on wing structures, but also on systems, cabin and cargo. The department works with manufacturing, design, aerodynamic and quality departments among others within a global digitised environment.
The department has representatives in the UK, France, Germany and Spain, and is managed centrally from Toulouse.
Tasks & accountabilities
During the internship you will support the department to provide the engineering programmes with specialist tolerance inputs and outputs. Your tasks will include:
1D/2D tolerance analysis using stack-chaining methods and tools
3D tolerance analysis using CATIA V5 3D CAD and integrated 3D specialist tolerancing software
Identification and management of tolerances in the toolsets
Identification and management of tolerance share agreements and definition for engineering drawings
Statistical analysis of data
Creation and update of engineering drawings
This job requires an awareness of any potential compliance risks and a commitment to act with integrity, as the foundation for the Company’s success, reputation and sustainable growth.
You must be an undergraduate for the whole duration of the internship, studying towards an Engineering degree, preferably Mechanical or Aerospace.
You should also have the following skills:
Good understanding of mechanics and geometry
Ability to work in a multi-functional team environment
Good communication and presentation skills
Good report writing skills
Competent user of Microsoft Office, specifically Excel, PowerPoint and Word.
Specific – gained either through course syllabus or additional reading:
Knowledge of tolerancing standards such as ISO1101 (or similar) Geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) / Geometric Product Specification (GPS) and EN9100 Key Characteristic (KC)
Principles and application of Datum and Reference Systems
Awareness or experience of tolerancing methods
Awareness or experience of 3D modelling techniques and tools (CAD software, CATIA)
