Our UK Graduate Programme provides exceptional graduates the opportunity to master managerial and technical skills. From day one, you will be assigned to a particular department and will be guided through the various placement opportunities that exist within your function, the wider business and even with customers and suppliers. This, along with training provided works to ensure you are ready and experienced enough to take the next step of your career following the programme’s conclusion.
The thermal engineering and hardware group is responsible for the analysis, development and test of spacecraft thermal control systems, in support to the various Airbus Defence and Space groups, as well as detailed design analysis and test of spacecraft equipment, such as antennas and mechanisms. The responsibilities typically span the full project life-cycle from early conceptual design support through qualification and up to final delivery to the Customer.
Typically, the work of the department involves defining the concept design in cooperation with the project architects and designers, and creating a mathematical model representing the thermal properties of the system. The model is used to evaluate the design, through calculating the performance of the system, and to enable detailed definition of the hardware elements. In the latter part of a project lifetime, the emphasis moves from theoretical analysis to support-to-manufacture and thermal testing of the system. At spacecraft level, integration and testing can take place in various locations throughout Europe. At equipment level, the facilities in Stevenage are generally used.
Main activities will include:
¤ Supporting a lead thermal engineer to build and analyse thermal models to customer requirements. ¤ Modelling thermal analysis investigations and analysing results using MATLAB and Microsoft Excel. ¤ Supporting the sizing of the thermal control system and performing design trade-offs.
This role will be based in Stevenage and will receive the full Airbus Defence & Space Graduate programme benefit package including an annual Salary of £27,000, plus a welcome payment of £2,000.
Successful candidates will be able to demonstrate the following:

¤ At minimum, a 2:1 degree or equivalent qualification in Physics, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Mathematics, Natural Sciences or related subject.

¤ An interest in space.

¤ Experience of programming; e.g. FORTRAN, Python, JAVA, C++, C, C#, Visual Basic.

¤ Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office and MATLAB, including advanced proficiency in Excel, ideally for the use of analysing results.

¤ Good problem solving and team working skills.

¤ Excellent presentation and written and verbal communication skills, including report writing.
The successful candidate will be subject to UK National Security Clearance in order to undertake related work in accordance with business needs.
