Job overview

Do you want to join an exciting, busy and fast-paced project manager team? Then you’re only a few steps away, this apprenticeship will equip you with the appropriate skills and knowledge you require to begin your career in project management.

The infrastructure delivery group is tasked with managing a complex portfolio of programmes and projects, with the key objective of ensuring the Janet network remains fit for purpose and capable of delivering vital connectivity services to the research and education sector.

In this role, you will provide project management support to ensure Janet infrastructure projects are delivered on time and to budget. This will involve making sure that projects are planned, managed and executed effectively and efficiently.

Main responsibilities

Through a combination of online, classroom and on-the-job learning, you will obtain a degree level qualification whilst gaining real work experience. This will include first class training and support for both day-to-day work and university learning; an advantage not available at university. This apprenticeship will give you a great opportunity to earn while you learn with a salary and company benefits.

As learning allows, you will:

Support delivery of Janet infrastructure projects, including the following:

  • The Janet backbone evolution programme
  • The Janet Access programme
  • Other infrastructure projects that may arise
  • Assist in the creation and maintenance of project related documentation, including plans, risk registers, issue logs, and progress reports
  • Participate in project and programme teams
  • Develop project management skills
  • Develop service management skills

Desired qualification

3 x GCSE (or equivalent) at grades A-C in any subject, plus GCSE English and Maths (or equivalents) at grade D or above

Working week

9am-5pm, Monday to Friday, (35 hours a week)


£15,000 per annum
