IT Support Apprentice
We are looking for an enthusiastic and reliable person to join the College as an apprentice to achieve a qualification at level 3 as an IT Infrastructure Technician. The apprentice will be supported by an external tutor from the institute for apprenticeships and technical education.
- Assist the Network Supervisor in the management and support of the College network.
- Assist the MIS Manager in the management and support of the College’s administrative databases.
- To complete the Infrastructure Technician apprenticeship course with the external provider.
Working with the IT Network Supervisor:
- Provide assistance with the supply, installation and maintenance of IT equipment, including computers, iPads, printers, projectors and visualisers, keeping related data updated in the IT inventory database.
- Work with suppliers to purchase replacement consumables such as toner cartridges and projector lamps.
- Create and delete network accounts, reset passwords and manage accounts on Microsoft Office 365.
- Install new software and manage existing installations and licences.
- Clear printer queues and install print drivers as required.
- Provide technical support for both staff and students in their use of IT equipment including mobile devices and in standard college applications, i.e. Microsoft Office, email, internet access, etc.
Working with the MIS Manager:
- Create users and roles which are required within the College’s main administration packages, REMS, Resource, Dashboard and the VLE (Virtual Learning Environment).
- Support staff in their use of these databases and environments.
- Contribute to the development of the College’s administrative systems and assist with documentation, as required.
- Meeting the entry requirements to embark on an apprenticeship as an Infrastructure Technician.
- Qualifications at Level 2 (merit / distinction) or above in ICT/Computing, or equivalent and GCSE grade C or above in maths and English.
- Energy and enthusiasm for learning about all aspects of IT used in an educational setting and for helping it to work as effectively as possible.
- An interest in solving problems for yourself and others.
- A commitment to providing a quality customer service: good interpersonal and communication skills, proactive, strong team player, self-motivated and an ability to work in a team or on your own.
- A patient approach to helping those who know less about IT than you do.
- Willingness to attend training courses and keep up to date with developments in IT, college computer systems, hardware maintenance and repair.
- Understanding of and commitment to equality and diversity in the practice of your work.
- Commitment to safeguarding the interests and needs of young people.
- An understanding of computers and networks.
- An ability to use and to help others solve problems using software for word processing, spreadsheets, databases, desk top publishing, email, web browsing and other commonly used applications.
- Flexibility and adaptability in your work and an approach to work which welcomes one day being different from the next and the last.
- An ability to prioritise and manage your time effectively.
- Experience of helping others with IT-related problems.
- An interest in computer programming.
At least 5 GSCE’s, including English and Maths at GCSE grade D or above.
QA’s apprenticeships are funded by the Education & Skills Funding Agency (ESFA), an executive agency of the Department for Education.
To be eligible for a Government funded apprenticeship you must have lived in the UK or European Economic Area (EEA) for the last 3 consecutive years.
