Overall purpose of job

To maintain cleanliness and hygiene of kitchen and adjoining areas. To check stock and monitor refrigeration and heated cupboards are at required temperatures. To prepare tables and lay trays for residents meals. When cooking in the afternoon to prepare sandwiches and other hot food for example Jacket potatoes.

1) Training and Kitchen Hygiene

Basic food hygiene is to be carried out at all times. The Kitchen and all utensils are to be maintained in a good condition to ensure that there is minimal risk of spreading contamination within the food preparation area.

Basic Food Hygiene certificate is to be updated at appropriate intervals.

2) Main Activities

a) General cleanliness of kitchen.
b) All washing up.
c) Cleaning surfaces with antibacterial spray.
d) All cloths to be soaked in a sterilizing solution when not in use.
e) Ensure floors are swept and mopped at end of each shift.
f) Clean fridges.
g) Check dates and rotate stock in fridges and store cupboard.
h) Ensure all food in fridge is covered and dated.
i) Rotate stock in freezers.
j) Defrost freezers every 3 months.
k) Lay tables and trays for residents meals.
l) Empty waste bin throughout shift and at end.
m) Restocking kitchen
n) Check deliveries of goods and provisions against Invoice/Delivery note.
o) Support Cook when working in the mornings. Some food preparation.

3) Miscellaneous

a) Uniform to be worn at all times when on duty.
b) Uniform to be clean and smart.
c) Hair to be held inside net or hat.

4) Security and Safety

a) Fire training is compulsory for all staff you should therefore be conversant with all fire precautions.
b) Participate in all training sessions.
c) Respond immediately to fire alarms.
d) Safe manual handling to be practiced at all times.
e) Kitchen door to be kept locked when no staff in kitchen.
f) Fly doors and screens to be kept closed when doors and windows open.

Any other reasonable duties that you may be asked to do from time to time.
