Description of the job
Our UK Graduate Programmes provide exceptional graduates the opportunity to master managerial and technical skills. Over
the 2/3 year period it combines rotational placements with focused training and the possibility of European assignments as well
as further personal development and the chance to build your professional network.
From day one, you will be assigned to a particular department and will be guided through the various placement opportunities
that exist within your function, the wider business and even with customers and suppliers. This, along with training provided
works to ensure you are ready and experienced enough to take the next step of your career following the programmes
conclusion.
The Landing Gear Centre of Competence (CoC) which is one of the six Engineering Centres of Competence including Cabin
and Cargo, Airframe, Systems, Flight Physics and Powerplant.
¤ We provide operational leadership over all ATA32 Landing Gear matters, including in front of our internal customers and
vendors.
¤ We aim to provide Airbus with excellence in Landing Gear definition, integration, engineering solutions, industrial and
in-service support.
¤ The CoC is responsible for the integration of the Landing Gear into the aircraft across all ATA32 deliverables and for the
application of related programme management and development processes to ensure delivery to Time, Cost, Quality and
Performance (TQCP).

We are able to offer a variety of experiences exposing you to a wide range of tasks, objectives and deliverables aiming to allow
you to contribute to the generation of the optimum solutions for the landing gear product:
¤ Landing Gear engineering requires a combination of structural and systems disciplines.
¤ Structural aspects refer to the mechanical landing gear and the interfaces to the aircraft structure to take loads upon landing.
¤ Systems refer to hydraulic, electrical and computer systems which manoeuvring the aircraft on the ground and retract or
extend the gear once in flight. The development of these systems requires control laws and other safety critical software.
¤ Airbus is the aircraft integrator and the Landing Gear CoC interfaces and manages many suppliers to provide the components,
equipment and systems that together form the Landing Gear product.
The Landing Gear CoC is also a strong contributor to the Airbus Digital Transformation project and Skywise Digital Platform. In
the area of big data and advanced analytics we are working to extract value from data that is generated during the Landing Gear
development process, including from the simulation models, the test rigs and flight test, and from in-service aircraft. There are
also opportunities to work on projects related the connectivity of our product, think Internet of Things applied to aircraft and
Landing Gear, and on the application of virtual and augmented reality to Engineering.
As such your role will offer a variety of placements exposing you to a wide range of tasks, objectives and deliverables aiming to
allow you to contribute to the generation of the optimum solutions for the landing gear product. You may spend time outside of
the Landing Gear CoC and Engineering to experience the relationship between the Landing Gear domain and the wider
business.
In addition to this you may also have the opportunity to propose a placement with an external business. The expectation of this
opportunity is that you can gain exposure to the Airbus Supply Chain, Airbus Customers or other networks that would allow you
to experience other business models and technology.
This role will be based in Bristol, Filton (must be flexible) and will receive the full Airbus UK Graduate programme benefit
package including an annual Salary of £27,000.00 – plus a welcome payment of £2,000.00
Tasks
We are keen to accept forward thinking innovative graduates who are eager to develop themselves into a position of technical or
managerial excellence in order to support the Landing Gear contributions to our existing and future aircraft programs.
As a Landing Gear Engineering graduate you will be responsible for the completion of the objectives set by yourself and your
placement manager, which in turn will form the tasks and accountabilities for your time on the programme. These objectives will
be individual, defined by the placements you undertake in line with business needs and your development and will contribute to
you developing the necessary skills to progress within Landing Gear Engineering.
With support from the domain, you will be responsible for planning your placements in line with your development and learning
objectives. As our business strategy changes it would be advantageous for the successful candidate to have knowledge of
Project management and Lean principles.

Education:
We are looking for candidates with the following skills and experience:
Educated to either degree level (2:1 or above) or accredited MEng or equivalent within one the following disciplines;
The following degrees are highly relevant to Landing Gear CoC Engineering:
¤ Aeronautical, Aerospace or Space Engineering
¤ Systems Engineering
¤ Engineering with Math’s/Physics
¤ Engineering as a core degree in combination with another.
¤ Systems Engineering
¤ Mechanical Engineering
¤ Robotics and Mechatronics
The following degrees will be considered in combination with a strong interest in applying your expertise within the Aviation
Engineering Industry.
¤ Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology
¤ Digital technology
¤ Data Science and Analytics
Skills and Experience:
¤ Project Management
¤ Analytical thinking and problem solving.
¤ Teamwork and leadership

Knowledge of the following would be advantageous:
¤ General knowledge of Landing Systems or similar systems:
o Hydraulic valves
o Avionics systems
o Structures and mechanics
o Sensors and electrical systems
¤ Mechanical and hydraulic modelling tools such as ADAMS
¤ System modelling tools such as Simulink and MatLab
¤ CAD tools such as CATIA
¤ Coding skills such as C/C++, python, R
¤ An Engineering Internship or Aerospace-based projects during academic studies would be desirable
