Some of our apprentices go on to work on some of the most ground breaking projects in Britain, and moved onto to work senior roles such as Programme Managers, Principal Engineers and Maintenance delivery managers.
With your support we will be:

You will be paid a competitive salary, plus during your 21 week residential training we’ll pay for your accommodation, three meals a day, your work clothing and personal safety equipment.
On top of all this, you’ll get 28 days holiday, plus bank holidays. In your first year, your leave is planned for you and we pay for you to travel home for planned long weekends, Christmas and Easter holidays.

Right now, you have a good understanding of Maths and English and basic IT skills. You are passionate about engineering and committed to further study and learning to help you achieve your goal of becoming an engineer.You’re also safety aware, with strong attention to detail and good problem solving skills. You’re happy to listen and learn from others, but you also have the confidence to communicate your own ideas.
In order for a candidate to be considered for entry to the Network Rail Apprenticeship Scheme they must hold the following Academic qualifications:
• GCSE English Language at Grade A*- C / 9 – 5 (English literature will not be accepted)**
• GCSE Mathematics at Grade A*- C / 9 – 5
• GCSE Science at Grade A*- C / 9 – 5 Or NVQ or BTEC Level 2 or above in an Engineering subject
• One other GCSE in any subject at Grade A*- C / 9 – 5
*Please note that NVQ or BTEC Level 1 in an Engineering subject will not meet the required Standard
**English Literature will only be accepted as an additional qualification
Candidates can be considered for the Scheme if they hold equivalent qualifications to GCSEs at Level 2 or above.
Functional Skills Level 2 in Maths and English will be accepted. All 3 parts in English must be completed. We cannot accept just English Reading or Writing.
The following qualifications are acceptable as equivalents (or above) to GCSEs:
• Scottish National 5 or Scottish Standard 1-3
• A Level at Grade A – E
• AS Level at Grade A – E
• O Level at Grade A – C
• IGCSE at Grade A – C
To satisfy the requirement for ‘one other GCSE in any subject at Grade A* – C’ any of the following qualifications at pass level or above (merit or distinction) will be accepted:
• QCF Functional Skills Level 2
• NQF Key Skills Level 2 or above
• NQF Higher Diploma
• NVQ Level 2 or above
• QCF Certificate and Diploma at Level 2 or above
• BTEC Award, Certificate or Diploma at Level 2 or above

We pay you £8,618 during your first year, plus £1,150 for successful completion
This is in addition to your accommodation and food at our training centre at Westwood, the costs of which are all covered by us. This rises to £12,055 in the second year and £14,364 in the third year.
Beyond the Scheme,
Once you’ve completed the apprenticeship scheme, the average base salary upon appointment to a permanent role is around £30,000.
In addition to your base salary most roles require rostered working, with further enhancements paid when working bank holidays nights and weekends.
This can mean, that these additional enhancements can boost your total salary by over 50%!
