After learning the basic principles of precision engineering on traditional machine tools you will progress to learn to manufacture precision components of high accuracy and surface finish on the very latest, state of the art CNC Machine tools.

Our comprehensive 4 year apprenticeship program delivers the very highest practical and academic engineering skills training, providing successful candidates the opportunity to be world class engineers

Dedicated and hard-working apprentices have excellent career opportunities in the company with first class salaries. Key roles in CNC programming, setting and machining, estimating and method planning, quality control and inspection, sales and marketing, leadership and management are available to apprentices who successfully complete their apprenticeship and then gain valuable experience.

Training Structure:
The mechanical engineering modern apprenticeship is a comprehensive 4 years training program and consists of 4 days/wk practical skills training at Torkingtons and 1 day/wk release at college.

NVQ’s II & III are achieved through practical skills training delivered at Torkingtons, and the BTec National in Mechanical Engineering and HNC in Mechanical or Production Engineering are both achieved through day release at college.

Qualifications

Successful applicants will have a minimum 5 GCSE’s, with grades B or above in Maths and English. Similarly good grades in IT and Science will be an advantage.

Applications are welcome from candidates who are undertaking or have undertaken A levels. A level subject choice is not critical and applications are welcome from candidates who have selected non-technical subjects at A level.

Personal Qualities

The successful candidates, as well as being academically bright, will be able to demonstrate practical skills and knowledge, whether this be repairing on old car or bicycle at home, stripping down and re-building a computer, or working in shop or bar/restaurant for example…

He or she will possess good verbal and written communication skills, and ideally have undertaken some additional responsibilities at school and/or part-time work whilst at school or college that demonstrates initiative and get-up-and-go!
