Highly advanced electronic control systems are now in widespread use in shipping fleets around the world. These systems require many vessels to employ a specialist Electro-Technical Officer (ETO). Officers wishing to qualify in this field follow a training and qualification process that is specific to the discipline. This Programme is fully sponsored which should allow you to leave a 3 year educational programme debt free and move to a salary in the region of £28000.00+
Outcome: An STCW Electro Technical Officer of the Watch Certificate of Competency, plus the following academic award:
Foundation Degree (This programme is currently only available at South Shields Marine School and Warsash Maritime Academy).
Minimum Entry Requirements: The minimum entry requirements are 48 UCAS points including a numerate subject plus GCSE at grade B or above in Maths, English and Science (with significant Physical Science content). B/Tec level 3 in STEM related subjects
Framework: 5 alternating college and sea periods as per the following outline:
Phase 1 (At College): 30 wks.
Phase 2 (Sea & Leave): 5 mths.
Phase 3 (At College): 30 wks.
Phase 4 (Sea & Leave): 7mths.
Phase 5 (At College): 25 wks..
Start Dates: September each year, with more limited options to commence training in January each year.
Associated Training Record: MNTB ETO Training Record Book is completed when in sea phase
Approval: All programmes are MCA/MNTB approved.
