To be part of the school’s IT Support Team. The IT Service Desk Technician will provide first line technical support to staff and students within the school along with the reprographics team. The successful candidate will require an aptitude for working with applications/systems to undertake analysis, diagnosis and resolution of staff and student problems, which may range from straightforward to more complicated technical issues. There is also a range of administration duties within this role.

Your duties and responsibilities in this role will consist of:

Receiving printing/copying requests and fulfilling orders submitted using reprographic equipment
Assisting users with special printing / copying requirements – paper sizes; document finishing; laminating; stapling; booklets etc;
Working out timescales, costs and the number of copies required
Programming instructions into the copiers
Making sure machines have suitable levels of inks and toners
Monitoring the progress of the copying run and quality checking samples
Finishing copied items, by trimming, binding or laminating
Performing basic equipment maintenance and cleaning
Be responsible for Desktop & Application Support by:

Installing and test new peripherals.
Following manufacturer’s instructions to support the use of hardware, such as installing drivers.
Performing basic PC hardware repairs and upgrades.
Diagnosing and resolve basic PC, printer, peripheral and software faults.
Installing complete applications and set software options, such as default directory.
Carrying out any required maintenance of applications packs.
Be responsible for Server & Network Support by:

Installing and maintain standard network cabling.
Performing basic diagnostic and recovery routines on network equipment.
Following detailed instructions to configure network clients, including allocating required software and connecting to the correct server.
Maintaining an intranet by uploading pages and files.
Implementing disk space and printer quota policies.
Following instruction to maintain user accounts and permissions.
Be responsible for Configuration & Installation by:

Planning a change, record it and communicate it successfully.
Collating and interpret results of testing and advise if goods are fit for use.
Retrieving and record information in a Configuration Management database or log.
Be responsible for Continuity, Maintenance & Security by:

Discriminating between incidents and problems.
Searching knowledgebase/logs of previous calls to inform diagnosis and resolution.
Recording detailed diagnostic information.
Determining whether an immediate solution is required and alert line manager.
Understanding when a ‘quick fix’ is not sufficient to permanently resolve a problem.
Contribute to Strategy & Planning medication by:

Identifying a possible ICT requirement and an outline specification for a potential solution.

Learners will receive ten weeks of intensive training. Whilst in the workplace, apprentices will also receive continual assessment, and help and guidance from a dedicated trainer who will be there to ensure that they get the most from their work experience.

This apprenticeship will give you a Level 3 Infrastructure Technician Standard with training in areas such as:

Functional skills, Maths L2 and English L2
PC Fundamentals & Customer Service Skills
Business Processes & Network Fundamentals
Cloud Services
Coding & Logic
Networking and Architecture
Some of these modules will include an option to take an examination in order to receive a professional certificate.
