To stay on top, Airbus Group recognises the importance of supporting high-achieving and talented undergraduates. We do this
through offering challenging internship opportunities during which your skills and potential are fully maximised.
Our internships give a unique insight into potential career paths within Airbus Group. They are designed so that you can put your
theoretical knowledge into practice and gain crucial industry experience. The skills and knowledge you gain will improve your
chances of a future role within the Airbus Group and should benefit your future studies.
The Airbus Defence and Space Communications Electronics Department designs, develops, manufactures and tests equipment
for use on board Telecommunications and Navigation spacecraft. Our engineers apply their skills to realise highly complex and
compact systems covering RF and Microwave circuits. We span the interface between the analogue and digital domains to
realise front end receivers, frequency converters and Solid State Power amplifiers. Payload equipments are extremely reliable
and efficient needing to operate in the harsh environment of space to provide continuous services for people and businesses
anywhere on Earth and beyond. To help us deliver cost effective equipment solutions we need people with Knowledge or
interest in mixed signal technologies, GHz speed circuits, GaN, SiGe-BICMOS technologies, as well as CAD skills with Keysight
ADS and hands on RF/Microwave testing.
The RF/Microwave Engineering team within the Communication Products Group is looking for an intern to spend a 12 month
placement in the group. The hiring department is responsible for flight hardware designs and production support of RF and
microwave equipments. These vary from high power L-band amplifiers to low power Ku frequency converters and Ka beacons.
Tasks
During this internship, the activities you may undertake will include;
Typical activities will include:
¤ Contributing to circuit design, incorporating multiple amplifier, filter, mixer and analogue circuits.
¤ Circuit simulation and analysis to confirm the performance and reliability of the design.
¤ Schematic capture of the electronic circuits, using Mentor design tools and Keysight ADS.
¤ Support to laboratory testing of Engineering Model circuit designs, or of potential components to assess suitability.
¤ Support to Production testing of Flight Equipments, involving assessment of test results and problem debugging.
The experience we offer is likely to be a variety of smaller tasks across multiple projects rather than a single project. Hence it is
not likely to be suitable for a student whose course requires a single year-long project to be undertaken.

This role will require occasional travel to our other UK sites as well as some ad-hoc travel abroad.

Physics A-levels (or equivalent qualifications).
– Experience of electronic circuit design, for example through a university project, a hobby, or a placement in industry.
– Experience in carrying out practical work and the use of laboratory test equipment.
– Excellent verbal and written communication skills as the role is likely to involve working with multiple project teams throughout
the year and communicating with engineers in other departments.
The following skills are desirable:
– Knowledge of RF and microwave is advantageous
– Knowledge of high frequency ADC and DACs
– A mathematical background.
– Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office Excel, VBA or Matlab
Please ensure that a covering letter detailing motivations and suitability for this position is included in your application.
