Description of the job
Our UK Graduate Programme provides exceptional graduates the opportunity to master managerial and technical skills. Over the two year period it combines rotational placements with focused training and the possibility of European assignments as well as further personal development and the chance to build your professional network.
From day one, you will be assigned to a particular department and will be guided through the various placement opportunities that exist within your function, the wider business and even with customers and suppliers. This, along with training provided works to ensure you are ready and experienced enough to take the next step of your career following the programme’s conclusion.
The role of Graduate Systems engineer is based in the Terminals Engineering Group (approx. 20 engineers ) which is responsible for the research of and the subsequent design, development and support to the creation of state-of-the-art Satellite Terminals technologies. To reflect this breadth, the group’s remit is equally wide-ranging enabling the successful candidate to become proficient in many technical and non-technical areas that are the bedrock of a successful career. Examples are system design, link budgets , Terminals RF analysis and subsystem specification and selection , as well as presenting to technical and non-technical audiences.
On joining the Terminals group, you can expect to undertake a variety of tasks including but not limited to;
¤ End-to-end communications system design and development including performance analysis,e.g. data rate capacity & QoS performance ¤ System and ground terminal system design studies ¤ RF systems performance analysis ¤ Interface review and definition, e.g. RF Interfaces and functional interfaces with Control and Management systems, modems and antenna systems. ¤ Requirements capture and analysis ¤ System specification development and system sub-element specification ¤ Generation of terminal and system sub-element test strategy development and Validation, Verification and Test plan and procedure documentation ¤ Verification and validation evidence management ¤ Developing test procedures and driving improvements
¤ Technical subcontract management
As the successful candidate, you will have:
¤ At a minimum, a 2:2 degree or equivalent in Communications System Engineering, Engineering, Electronics, Science, Mathematics or related subject. ¤ Strong analytical skills. ¤ Excellent written and verbal communication skills. ¤ A methodical approach to the work with sufficient commitment and drive to see the task through even where adverse conditions are encountered. ¤ Team working. Experience of working direct with others and will be able to demonstrate a capability of presenting ideas and concepts to the customer. ¤ The ability to efficiently organise and co-ordinate their work with the ability to provide innovative solutions and to communicate them.
This role will be based in Portsmouth and will receive the full Airbus Defence & Space Graduate programme benefit package including an annual Salary of £27,000, plus a welcome payment of £2,000.
