If you want to work with horses but don’t necessarily want to ride, then think about training for a career in the Thoroughbred breeding industry. The training is open to anyone over the age of 18 and is delivered by the National Stud in Newmarket. There are no entry requirements or formal qualifications to complete the Entry to Stud Employment Course but a desire to work with animals and a love of being outdoors. This course is run once a year in starting in October. Students will:

  • learn how to look after mares and foals
  • how to handle stallions
  • learn about the breeding cycle of Thoroughbred horses

On successful completion of the course, students will be placed into stud farm as a Stud Hand.  Career progression is available with many students going on to be Stud Grooms, Stud Managers and Bloodstock Agents.
