Retail Apprenticeships will combine hands on experience with off the job study allowing you to gain industry related qualifications, skills and experience.
Search and apply for retail Apprenticeships on Careermap.
Kicking off your career with an Apprenticeship is a great way to combine on the job training with studying towards a nationally recognised qualification. You’ll gain invaluable experience in the field you want to work in all whilst earning and learning at the same time.
Think Apprenticeships are just for trade industries? Think again! There are currently over 280 Apprenticeship opportunities available in a range of fields from horticulture and nursing to business and administration to hairdressing – you can even become a solicitor through an Apprenticeship. There really are a wealth of opportunities available to you.
The level of Apprenticeship you’ll study all depends on your current qualifications. Intermediate Apprenticeships (Level 2) are the same as 5 GCSE’s, an Advanced Apprenticeship (Level 3) is equivalent to 2 A-levels, Higher Apprenticeships (Level 4/5) are equivalent to higher education certificates/diploma/foundation degree, a Degree Apprenticeship (Level 6/7) is the same as bachelor and masters degree.
An Apprenticeship involves being in full time employment (30+ hours). Targets and checks will be made throughout your Apprenticeship to ensure the employer is supportive and the apprentice is progressing. You’ll develop your skills in areas current and future employers want and you’ll be able to transfer knowledge learnt from your Apprenticeship. However, it’s not necessary to say you’ll be shown the door once you’ve completed your Apprenticeship. In most cases, if you’ve shown you’re not afraid of hard work then employers will keep you on and that opens up a whole lot of progression routes.
Apprenticeships really are a credible alternative to university. So why don’t you see what Apprenticeship opportunities you can find at Careermap and begin your journey to a promising career.

Retail Apprenticeships – The perfect accessory for your career
Retail Apprenticeships are just as varied as the industry itself, from DIY, supermarkets to fashion. As a retail Apprentice you could be assisting on the shop floor, working in a specialist department or be involved behind the scenes handling deliveries or managing stock.
Whether you choose to enter a business, market stall & independent shop or national chain & superstore, a retail Apprenticeship will be tailored towards your choice within the industry and aim to develop your skills. For example, those with artistic flair may be interested in the direction of visual merchandising which helps to create window and in-store displays.
If you have great people skills, good knowledge of specific products and willingness to deliver excellent customer service, retail Apprenticeships may be the right path for you. Click ‘View now’ and see what Career Map have on the shelves.
Types of Retail Apprenticeships
The UK’s retail sector is known for its predominantly young workforce, meaning that retail Apprenticeships offer opportunities that are vibrant and can lead to early career progression. For example, Sainsbury’s have a ‘Trainee Manager Programme’ and there is a wide range of courses at the Fashion Retail Academy for those wanting to expand their skills in buying, merchandising and management.
At an intermediate level, there are retail Apprenticeships for sales assistants, stockroom assistants, visual merchandisers, and fresh food assistants.
For advanced level retail Apprenticeships, you can work your way up to a career as a senior sales assistant, visual merchandiser supervisor, craft expert (bakery etc), style advisor (personal shopper etc), department manager or a store manager of a small outlet.
