Leisure, Fitness & Sport Apprenticeships
A sport and fitness apprenticeship is a great way to get the qualifications and practical experience that can boost a career in this field. An apprenticeship can teach the skills necessary in several professions, like fitness instructing, personal training, sports coaching, lifeguarding, physiotherapy and injury recovery coaching. Hands-on experience can be gained through leisure apprenticeships that take place in gyms, clubs, recreation centres and in sports teams. A sport and fitness apprenticeship allows an employer the opportunity to mould on-the-job training in the way that the company desires. Sports and fitness apprenticeships will take on apprentices at various levels, from school leavers to university candidates.

Kicking off your career with an Apprenticeship is a great way to combine on the job training with studying towards a nationally recognised qualification. You’ll gain invaluable experience in the field you want to work in all whilst earning and learning at the same time.
Think Apprenticeships are just for trade industries? Think again! There are currently over 280 Apprenticeship opportunities available in a range of fields from horticulture and nursing to business and administration to hairdressing – you can even become a solicitor through an Apprenticeship. There really are a wealth of opportunities available to you.
The level of Apprenticeship you’ll study all depends on your current qualifications. Intermediate Apprenticeships (Level 2) are the same as 5 GCSE’s, an Advanced Apprenticeship (Level 3) is equivalent to 2 A-levels, Higher Apprenticeships (Level 4/5) are equivalent to higher education certificates/diploma/foundation degree, a Degree Apprenticeship (Level 6/7) is the same as bachelor and masters degree.
An Apprenticeship involves being in full time employment (30+ hours). Targets and checks will be made throughout your Apprenticeship to ensure the employer is supportive and the apprentice is progressing. You’ll develop your skills in areas current and future employers want and you’ll be able to transfer knowledge learnt from your Apprenticeship. However, it’s not necessary to say you’ll be shown the door once you’ve completed your Apprenticeship. In most cases, if you’ve shown you’re not afraid of hard work then employers will keep you on and that opens up a whole lot of progression routes.
Apprenticeships really are a credible alternative to university. So why don’t you see what Apprenticeship opportunities you can find at Careermap and begin your journey to a promising career.
