Job seekers often focus so much on answering questions in an interview; they forget that they are there to ask questions in interviews too. Especially if you are being interviewed for your first job.

What skills and experiences would make an ideal candidate?
This is a great open-ended question that will make the interviewer tell you exactly what the company is looking for. If the interviewer mentions something you didn’t cover then cover it now.
What have you enjoyed the most about working here?
This question allows the interviewer to connect with you on a more personal level. It will give you a great insight into how people feel about working there.
Can you tell me about the team I will be working with?
You will find out about the people you will be working with on a daily basis, so listen carefully.
What are the prospects of growth and advancement?
You will show interest in opportunities within the company and you will show you aim to work up on the career ladder.
If I am extended a job offer how soon would you like me to start?
This is basic information people often forget to ask about in an interview.
Can you tell me how the role relates to the overall structure of the organisation?
With this question, you are drawing attention to a preference for teamwork and a general interest in the company.
How would you describe the work culture here?
This suggests you understand everyone wants to work in an enjoyable and positive environment.
In what way is work measured and reviewed?
This question shows that you appreciate the importance of real results.
Are there any other questions you would like me to answer for you?
This is a good line after asking your questions in case anything pops up the interviewer would like to know more about.
What is the next step in the process?
This question is left last and one you should definitely ask. It shows you want to move along in the process and it invites the interviewer to tell you how many people are being interviewed.
By being positive and asking questions, you show your potential employer that you are motivated and can think on your own. This in itself is really good for employers to hear, even if the position is an apprenticeship or internship in a business, it’s worth making the extra effort!
