About Marine Engineering Apprenticeships
Marine engineers develop, inspect, build, design, install and maintain the propulsion systems, pumps, engines and other pieces of technical equipment that make boats and other maritime vessels function effectively.
You’ll use a selection of skills during this Apprenticeship to become a marine engineer. These include: carpentry, electrical, plumbing, welding, and engineering.
What does a Marine Engineering Apprenticeship involve?
No two days will ever be the same. We can guarantee you that. One day you could be designing and developing new marine equipment. The next day fault finding and repairing ships and boats. The day after that providing engineering support on board a dive support vessel or refurbishing older crafts with navigation and communication systems. You might even inspect undersea pipelines. If your Apprenticeship is Royal Marines or Navy you might also have to maintain weapon systems. It’s thrilling industry to be a part of with so many possibilities and variations.
Progression Routes
With experience, you could progress into supervisory roles or project management. Want to specialise in a specific area? There’s plenty to choose from, like boat design, specialist equipment sales or even marine insurance.
