About the hospitality industry
Have you been inspired by the Great British Bake Off or Master chef? The catering and hospitality industry is one of the fastest growing of the global economy. You can gain a skill set that is transferable internationally to hotels, restaurants and pubs/bars all across the UK and overseas.
Don’t worry it’s not like Gordon Ramsay, all shouting and swearing.
Roles in the Hospitality Industry
Most people think Apprenticeships in the hospitality industry only involve servers and chefs, but there are so many other roles behind the scenes, especially for larger companies, examples include:
- Catering Manager,
- Events Manager
- Waitress/Waiter (Server)
- Bar Attendant,
- Team Leader, Supervisor, Assistant Manager
- Kitchen Porter,
- Head Offices – Brewers, Marketing, Auditor, Regional Manger, HR and Accounts
Are you an enthusiastic, outgoing young person with octopus arms? Could you charm even the grumpiest of old men/women? Could you carry a soup through an earthquake without spilling any? Do you have the ability to remain calm in 100 degree conditions while you’re cooking meals for 90 people? Then a career in the hospitality industry might just be for you.
A range of skills will be needed in this industry, depending on what role you’re considering it will vary. Whatever role you’ll need to friendly and hold good communication skills, you need to make your company different by exceeding expectations, always going that extra mile with an extra big smile. You’ll also need the ability to multi task and remain cool at peak times when you may be on your own with numerous diners.
If there’s one thing that’s certain it’s people love to go out to be wined and dined – that’s not going to change anytime soon …
