With the future of energy changing, National Grid needs to be able to adapt to the changes and they are currently on the lookout for people like you to help them.

What do National Grid Apprenticeships involve? National Grid Apprenticeships are a credible alternative to university, you’ll gain the opportunity to earn whilst you learn through a combination of on the job training and off the job study. National Grid offers two different levels of Apprenticeships, Advanced and Higher.

Advanced Apprenticeships includes the following roles:

Substations – You’ll be the one taking care of National Grids electricity substation ensuring electricity to millions of people's homes, streets and businesses.

Gas Operations – Gas operation Apprenticeships involve the maintenance of pipelines, gas turbines and compressors to ensure that operations at National Grid are safe, reliable and secure.

Liquefied Natural Gas – This Apprenticeship will involve carrying out site inspections and maintaining sites to ensure operations run as effectively and smoothly as possible.

Higher Apprenticeships at National Grid include the following roles:

Cyber Security – Through this Apprenticeship you’ll keep National Grids cyber networks safe from threats and risks.

Commercial and Contracts – This Apprenticeship will involve implementing and developing contract plans and managing contracts.

Project Controls (Management) – As a project controls apprentice you’ll be involved with cost management, schedule planning and problem solving to ensure projects are done safe and efficiently from start to finish.

Power System Engineering (System Operator) – This is a crucial role to managing the National Grid electricity transmission network providing electricity to millions.

Transmission Network Control Systems – Be prepared to be at hand night or day. If an emergency occurs, you’ll be the one who attends to save the day.

Electricity Network Management – This role will involve planning and prioritising to make the construction and maintenance of electricity systems efficient.

Substations – As a substation apprentice, you’ll monitor the integrated control system and maintain it to ensure everything is operating as it should.

What are National Grid looking for? Are you the type of person who grabs an opportunity with both hands? Are you motivated and driven? Want to develop your skills? Then you could be the perfect match. For an Advanced Apprenticeship, you’ll need to be qualified up to GCSE level. For the Higher Apprenticeship, you’ll need A-Levels or equivalent.
