About EDF Energy Apprenticeships

As an EDF Energy apprentice, there are so many opportunities open to you in a wide range of fields from business to engineering maintenance, smart metering, and commercial and project control.

With each Apprenticeship at EDF Energy, you’ll combine on-the-job learning and experience with training where you’ll gain a nationally recognised qualification in your chosen discipline.

Let’s delve a little deeper into what you’ll be doing in each Apprenticeship:

  • Engineering Maintenance – At first you’ll attend the Engineering Training Academy based near Portsmouth and then be based in one of EDF’s 8 power stations. You’ll gain invaluable knowledge and technical skills along with an engineering maintenance qualification.

  • Business – You’ll learn practical skills to build an excellent career, you’ll rotate roles in the business and really gain an insight into how EDF Energy works. Depending on the role you apply for this Apprenticeship will last between 24 to 36 months.

  • Smart Metering – This is a great opportunity to revolutionise the future of energy. By 2020 every home in the UK will be fitted with a smart meter. During this Apprenticeship, you’ll learn how to fit smart meters leading to a nationally recognised qualification in doing so.

  • Commercial – You’ll gain real experiences in the commercial world while working towards a university-level qualification. You’ll manage contracts that are needed to construct and commission the plant leading to more efficient energy.

  • Project Control – You’ll work both in an office environment and out on sites, you’ll learn estimating, planning, risk management, and cost engineering and gain all the practical skills needed to set you up for a future in energy while also gaining a qualification.
