Jessica Palmer – Driven to Succeed

October 2023

The Automotive sector is dynamic, customer focussed and requires highly committed, forward-thinking people. Inspiro provide apprenticeships for Customer Service, Advisor and Technician roles, working with prestigious brands such as Jaguar Land Rover, who invest in skills and personal development. These apprenticeships are delivered at academies across the country and on site. As shown in the example below, Inspiro’s apprenticeship provision is making a positive impact on this sector.

Case Study – Jessica Palmer

Having started her Level 2 Vehicle Service Technician apprenticeship in September 2021, Jessica’s confidence and knowledge of the automotive industry has increased significantly.

Jessica benefitted enormously from learning the fundamentals of the product that she gets to work on daily. The manufacturer backed training has also allowed her to receive recognition for her enthusiasm and dedication.

The programme combines VRQ (study-based training) delivered via college and VCQ (practical-based training) at Sinclair Volkswagen in Swansea, Wales’ largest privately-owned motor group.

Jessica has been very committed to completing the work set for her throughout the apprenticeship. She has impressed her employer by being dependable, reliable, enthusiastic and a pleasure to work. Anything asked of her is completed promptly and to a brilliant standard.

Terry Pepper, Jessica’s manager at the dealership states, “Jess has progressed really well. She is learning at a good rate and growing in confidence. Jess can already work independently and shows a high level of skill but knows when to ask for guidance if required. I believe that Jess has the aptitude and determination to progress up to Master Technician. At this rate she will be put forward as an Apprentice of the Year candidate.”

For Jaguar Land Rover, the apprenticeship benefits include being able to adapt the training according to the needs of their business and ensure staff thoroughly understand their processes and methods from the outset. It is a highly effective way to develop and retain a motivated, skilled and qualified workforce for the long term.

Jessica reflects on her apprenticeship, “The apprenticeship scheme has really benefitted me with my confidence towards working in the automotive industry and has given me amazing opportunities to diagnose and repair vehicles. The opportunity to gain experience and be educated at the same time in order to receive a qualification is very rewarding. I have developed amazing skills and improved more and more the further I go into the course.”

In terms of further career development, Jessica plans to gain as much experience as possible, by learning as much as she can and progressing through to a Senior Technician role as a Master Technician. Inspiro are certain that her career will continue to thrive and wish her all the best for the future.
