It’s a new academic year – full steam ahead!
Welcome to the second edition of Careermag for Parents. When we published the launch edition back in April, we didn’t know what to expect. Reaching out to parents and guardians is a challenge because the audience is always moving on. Most only think about their children’s career and qualification pathways a fixed points in time, such as the beginning of the year, exam season, applications for uni…
I am delighted to report that we have had an overwhelmingly positive response! The feedback we have received has shown a real appreciation for the clear and factual information provided, along with inspirational articles about future career opportunities. Like young people, you don’t know what you don’t know, so how do you search for it?
Relax – we’ve got you covered!
Whether you are new to the experience of sixth form or a new college, or you have been through it all before, we have pulled together the latest information to help prepare you for the year ahead. Time goes so fast! The next thing you know it will be time to think about exams, applying for university or planning for life after school.
To help you, we have lots of articles about options for school leavers and key dates to put on your calendar. We have also included information about all sorts of qualifications and pathways to think about. Being informed will help in deciding what are the best next steps, whether that is going to university or further education college, taking up an apprenticeship or going straight into the world of work.
One issue I hear time and time again from both parents and young people, is a lack of clarity of where different qualifications and/or pathways can lead to. The world of work is rapidly changing. It is rare to have a job for life, so understanding transferable skills is crucial for success. Combine that with advancements in technology, being resilient is key. To help give a view, have a look at our Sector Spotlights.
Careermag Sector Spotlights are represented in every magazine we publish. We take an industry or sector and dive deep. Each feature gives an overview of what it’s all about, then we dig down to find out what kinds of jobs are available, what the future looks like and all the ways you can qualify for a range of jobs. You may be surprised what a sector has to offer, some you may have never considered before.
Young people learn in different ways. Some are comfortable with the traditional A Level to university route, but some don’t fit that mould. We explain alternative routes such as apprenticeships, vocational qualifications and much more.
We hope you enjoy this action packed edition of Careermag for Parents! If you love it as much as we do, you can subscribe for free! And we would love to hear from you, if you have any questions or a story to tell, contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Wishing you all the very best for a fun and exciting year!
