Completing an apprenticeship in business can kickstart your career in a very competitive environment. Whether you want to start your own business, or you want to work your way up in a big company, an apprenticeship is a great way to gain experience and make some contacts. You will learn all the essential skills to work confidently and effectively in the workplace and as you will also be working for a business at the same time as your course, you can put your new skills into practice and gain the knowledge you need for a successful career. If you have just left school, are unemployed or just want a change of career, this is a great path to start off on to progress into the world of business.
What type of person should I be?
If you have great communication skills, good enthusiasm and you are willing to learn then this apprenticeship would be great for you, especially for those people with an entrepreneurial streak.
What to expect?
You should expect hands on experience within a workplace environment while gaining skills and knowledge from college. Your responsibilities in your job will depend on your employer. You may well have various career opportunities in business after completing your apprenticeship, such as an Administrator, Office Junior, Receptionist, Junior Legal Secretary or a Medical Secretary. You can then work towards jobs such as Office Manager, Administration Team Leader or even Business Development Executive.
What are the requirements?
The vast majority of business apprenticeships will require you to live in England, not be in part time education, and to be aged 16 and over. Most employers will look for good English and Maths skills, preferably GCSE grades of C and above.
