Hear from Environment Agency Apprentice & Interns

Introducing Nathan – Level 3 Apprentice – Electrical Installations

I’m doing an apprenticeship and working towards a Level 3 in electrical installations. I’d heard that EA was a good place to work and the salary was very competitive, plus you get lots of responsibility early on and you’re trusted to help run things. When I’m not working on a project, I have time set aside to study and I can take learning at my own pace. The other thing is the people – everyone is so supportive and helpful. Once I’m qualified, I’ll definitely stay on with EA.

Introducing Lucy – Intern

When I graduated, I wanted to do something with clear environmental values. The projects the E offer through the academic internship let me do work that matters while taking on new skills and knowledge. So far, I’ve worked across sustainable drainage systems and investigating potential contaminants – my report was published internally and is now used by teams across EA! The work is challenging, but things like that make it so rewarding.

Introducing Lucy – Intern

My background is in Marine Biology, so getting to work in conservation and protection was ideal. And with the academic internship you can learn as you work, which was the perfect balance for me. I recently finished work on a huge review of UK course fisheries, which haven’t been analysed for 15 years – the work taught me a lot about data analysis and it’s even led to a permanent role in research and development. Aside from that, it’s amazing to work in a place where everyone has a common purpose and gets to make a constructive contribution. I wouldn’t be anywhere else.
