Kickstart scheme opens – Young People

Today the Government has launched their £2 billion Kickstart scheme, which will create thousands of new jobs for young people. This new initiative should drive the economy forward and improve employment opportunities for young people.

We understand that leaving education can feel daunting, especially with how challenging the current labour market is due to the consequences that the pandemic has caused. The Government has pledged to support young people the best they can and keeping up to date with the latest labour market information has never been more important. Knowing how to find this information can be a real difficult task, which is where Careermap can help!

Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, Therese Coffey said:

‘As we launch our £2 billion Kickstart programme, putting young people at the heart of our revival – we are urging businesses to get involved in this innovative scheme and take advantage of the enormous pool of potential out there.

There is no limit on the number of opportunities we’ll open up through Kickstart and we’ll fund each one for six months as part of Our Plan for Jobs to create, support and protect jobs.

Young people taking part will receive on-the-job training, skills development and mentoring, as we get them on.’

Careermag for School Leavers and Parents, is a particularly useful resource for young people to explore opportunities with top employers and training providers, as well sharing insights into what is going on in the world of work and how you can make yourself more stand out in a challenging job market.

We can also help you to connect with employers through CareermapLive. During each webinar, we’ll be joined by an employer who will discuss the opportunities within the industry and provide support with the recruitment process. Alongside this, we will also bust myths and misconceptions about the industry.

While it’s understandable that you might be worried about your future and the career options available, try not to panic. Yes, the current job market isn’t great but that doesn’t mean there aren’t opportunities out there. In fact, at the time of writing this, had over 18,000 school leaver options. It’s true many employers did temporarily pause their recruitment campaigns during the lockdown, however, many employers have resumed hiring and are preparing for what is being considered the ‘new norm’.

So to those of you out there worrying, please don’t – you have options! Try to stay positive, use your time wisely and research the labour market.
