With so many shops in Manchester, there will always be the necessity for retail workers. Every single person goes to the shop at least once a week, whether it’s to Sainsbury’s for the food shop or Topshop for the latest in trend top or even Boots, (no not for shoes but make up or shampoo) everyone goes.
The skills you learn from working as a retail Apprentice can be transferable to almost any job sector. Most other job require working face-to-face with customers, cash handling, you’ll be confident and an excellent communicator if not to begin with by the end of the Apprenticeship that is a sure cert. You’ll be able to adapt to cope in stressful situations – think Christmas period and all those last minute shoppers! And you’ll gain experience of working in a team.
So what will your daily responsibilities involve?
You could work in many aspects of retail, whether it’s on the shop floor as a sales assistant or behind the scenes in the stock room, or even as a beauty consultant, visual merchandiser or fresh food counter assistant the opportunities are endless. You could progress to senior, supervisor or managerial levels.
Your roles may include:
- Greeting Customers,
- Assisting the General Manager,
- Helping customers with enquiries,
- Processing Payments,
- Answering phone calls,
- To Receive and Store Deliveries,
- To maintain a tidy and clean shop floor
Whatever you’re doing make sure you’re prepared to be on your feet for long periods of time though.
Remember, no matter how good your feedback is from a previous customer you always start over with the next customer meaning always be well mannered, helpful and polite regardless of what the previous customer said every customers opinion matters.
